Beauty in the details

March 13, 2013

Have you ever slowed down long enough to notice the small things… the details of nature?  Typically, our eyes are drawn to a colorful flower or a fluttering bird.  That makes sense.  Lush color is splashed everywhere in nature.

But, what about the brittle twigs and thorns during the harsh days of winter?

Have you taken a walk in the woods and trudged through snow when the sun was hidden behind a smear of grey clouds?  The complex tangle of bramble and fallen trees can look like a messy maize.

Or it can be a beautiful sepia snapshot of life in hibernation.  Every bud waiting for spring…  Every twig ready to grow…  Every tree and bush ready for warm sunshine.

The woods in winter offers a tranquil lesson in anticipation.  There is great beauty in the details.
